Material suitability depends on the material, finish, design, and equipment required.

Some materials can release hazardous fumes or become damaged during laser processing. All customer-supplied materials must be identified and approved before engraving.

Wood

Engraving results depend on species, grain, finish, and design detail.

Anodized aluminum

Compatible anodized finishes can produce sharp, high-contrast markings.

Coated metals

Selected coated surfaces may engrave or mark depending on coating and item shape.

Stainless steel marking

Available where compatible with the material, finish, design, and equipment required.

Leather

Selected leathers can mark with a rugged, permanent look after review.

Slate

Slate creates strong contrast for coasters, plaques, and gifts.

Cork

Cork is useful for coasters, inserts, and branded gift items.

Glass

Glass compatibility depends on shape, thickness, and project requirements.

Project workflow

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

STEP 1 - TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROJECT

Submit the item, dimensions, material, quantity, design idea, and desired completion date.

STEP 2 - ITEM AND DESIGN REVIEW

We review the item, confirm that it is appropriate for our current services, and determine whether the artwork needs to be prepared or recreated.

STEP 3 - APPROVE YOUR PROOF

You receive a digital design proof showing the proposed layout before engraving begins.

STEP 4 - WE ENGRAVE YOUR ITEM

After approval and payment, your project is scheduled for production. Local pickup is available in Mesa, Arizona.

These requirements help us protect your item and confirm whether the material is safe and suitable for laser engraving.

Clean items only

Items must be clean and free of oil, residue, loose debris, dust, and packaging material.

Identify materials

Customers must accurately identify the material and any coating, finish, or paint applied to it.

Customer-supplied review

Customer-supplied items are accepted only after inspection and approval.

No unsafe or unknown materials

Some plastics, coatings, composites, and unknown materials cannot be laser processed safely.

No regulated firearm items

Complete firearms, frames, receivers, suppressors, serialized components, ammunition, and other regulated items are not accepted through this general page.

Test marks may be required

We may require a small test mark in a concealed area before approving the full project.

Results vary

Engraving results vary based on material, coating, finish, condition, grain, and design complexity.

Right to decline

State 48 Hidden Defense may decline any item for safety, legal, technical, or material-related reasons.

Ownership or authorization

Proof of ownership or authorization may be requested for branded, departmental, copyrighted, or trademarked artwork.

Yes, provided that you own the logo or have permission to use it. Vector artwork is preferred, but we may be able to prepare other files for an additional artwork fee.

DO I RECEIVE A PROOF?

Yes. Custom projects generally include a digital layout proof before engraving begins.

CAN YOU COPY A DESIGN I FOUND ONLINE?

We can use artwork that you own, have licensed, or have permission to reproduce. We may also create an original design inspired by a general theme without copying protected artwork.

CAN YOU ENGRAVE ANY MATERIAL?

No. Material suitability depends on its composition, coating, shape, condition, and compatibility with our equipment. Some materials are unsafe to laser.

WILL THE ENGRAVING LOOK THE SAME ON EVERY ITEM?

No. Color, contrast, depth, and texture vary by material, coating, grain, finish, and condition.

DO YOU OFFER BULK ORDERS?

Yes. We can quote coordinated quantities for businesses, groups, departments, clubs, events, nonprofit organizations, and gift programs.

HOW LONG DOES CUSTOM ENGRAVING TAKE?

Production time depends on the project, artwork, material, quantity, and current workload. An estimated completion date will be provided with the quote.

DO YOU SHIP CUSTOMER-SUPPLIED ITEMS?

Approved non-regulated items may qualify for shipping. Shipping eligibility, packaging requirements, cost, and risk will be reviewed before the item is sent.
